extranet

extranet
   Originally coined as a term to describe any network in which part of the network was protected behind a firewall and part of the network was accessible from the Internet.
   In current usage, an extranet describes a technology that allows different corporate intranets to communicate for the purposes of electronic commerce and collaboration.
   Those parts of an extranet outside the firewall contain their own set of security safeguards, allowing only limited access for specific purposes.
